WHAT DOES MAGIC HAS TO DO WITH ARC RATED GARMENTS?

There are some important points that some of us forget when we are going to buy a PPE:

Protection of the user
Price
Quality

PROTECTION OF THE USER

Yes! The most important one is the protection of the user. A PPE is manufactured to protect the user against the risks he is going to expose. For example arc flash, fire, chemical or cut protection. The users shall be protected, and the best way to proove the protection of a PPE is to have a look in the certificate and tests that has been performed to it.

First of all, we need to look in the legitimacy of the laboratory or entity who has released the certificate.

Secondly, we need to check the standards which the PPE has been tested for. Including the year of the standards, when the tests has been performed, if the fabric or garment tested corresponds to the one that we need, etc. There are so many points to look up in a certificate, do you need us to explain it?

Thirdly, but not les important, we woud need to look on the washes that the garment is able to protect against the mentioned risks.

PRICE AND QUALITY

Regarding the price, this should be the second point to take care about, that can be mixed with the quality of the garment. But we need to know that:

Expensive PPE’s are not always related with higher quality

We all should start to realize that sometimes the best products or the products that have lasted us the most surprisingly aren’t always the most expensive. For example, I have bought expensive boxers from an expensive brand and also bought cheaper boxers from the street market and by and far the ones that have lasted me the longest and are still going strong are the cheaper ones that I bought a decade ago while the more expensive ones that I bought 5 years ago already have holes and tears in them.

Does this apply to every company and every product? Absolutely not.

But from my experience sometimes the cheaper option does not mean bad product.

Meanwhile we like to harp on and sing the praises of certain expensive brands, why?

There are to many advertising which shows that a PPE is the best:

Arc clothing that last forever.
The arc jacket that is using the lightest fabric, but the strongest.
The highest durability and then, the garment is certified after 5 washes only.

THIS IS ONLY ADVERTISING, but the truth is that THERE IS NO “MAGIC” IN ARC CLOTHING CERTIFICATION. IT IS A MATTER OF TESTS AND VERIFICATIONS.
